Backley Plain

The sun sets over Backley Plain in the New Forest throwing trees and deer into silhouettes on a beautiful late spring evening.

The New Forest is a former royal hunting ground in the south of England. There can be few other places in England where the ancient landscape has remained so unchanged. It was created in 1079 by William the Conqueror as a hunting area, principally of deer.

Photography by Jon Gibbs.
