Derwent Water Jetty

This photographic print is a beautiful work of art showing Derwent Water lake as the daylight fades behind the fells in the distance. An exposure over over 2 minutes has produced a very tranquil water surface and movement in the sky as the clouds passed overhead.

Derwent Water was once a part of Bassenthwaite but is now connected only by the River Derwent. Rectangular shaped, it is 3 miles in length and 72ft in depth. It is the Lake Districts third largest lake, and its waters shelter five islands. Watched over by the fells of Derwent, and Castlerigg, the lake was described by John Keats as being shut in with rich-toned mountains. William Wordsworth also wrote a poem about the lake.
