This wonderfully peaceful scene was captured at twilight as the light faded over Derwent Water in England's beautiful Lake District. The piers situated on the lake make great foreground subjects and the twilight light provides a beautiful blue hue.

The lake occupies part of Borrowdale and lies south of the town of Keswick. It is both fed and drained by the River Derwent. It measures approximately 3 miles long by 1 mile wide and is around 72 feet deep. There are several islands within the lake, one of which is inhabited. Derwent Island House, an 18th century residence, is a tenanted National Trust property open to the public on five days each year.

The Lake is very much a landscape of moods, varying from the dramatic waves splashing against Friar's Crag when driven by southerly gales, to the absolute mirror calm of early mornings. Derwent Water is a place of considerable scenic value. It is surrounded by hills (known locally as fells), and many of the slopes facing Derwent Water are extensively wooded and provide photographers and visitors stunning views.
