Automotive Art Prints
Automotive art has long been popular with young boys and men, especially photography of supercars such as Ferrari and Porsche. From car magazines, brochures and posters the image of a beautiful car makes men drool and dream of owning such a car.Back in the seventies car brochures and adverts saw a change in design and became more glamorous with scantily-clad women in the picture, usually draped across the bonnet of some dream machine. Into the eighties came supercar poster art of Lamborghini, Ferrari and all kinds of classic cars that many boys had adorned on their bedroom walls.
Today car art has become more sophisticated thanks to the improvements in photography, lighting and the digital post-processing era. Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Apple's Aperture software have brought great advances in retouching and provide better results which were unavailable before. Today most photographers have one or two of these photography packages that enable them to get the most out of their automotive artwork.
Of course the best car photographers don't rely soley on post processing work, rather they strive to get the photo right as they shoot it using advanced photography lighting and studio equipment that sets the right ambience before they click the shutter. Tim Wallace is one of our automotive art photographers with a natural ability to show cars off in their best light, making them all look like dream cars that you would be happy to have hanging on your walls. Tim was awarded the 'Associate Distinction for Professional and Applied photography' by the Royal Photographic Society in 2008 for his well known automotive car photography. He was also invited to work with Jaguar to conduct 'industry first' seminars in car photography at their UK headquarters. The thoroughbred supercar maker Aston Martin now features a section of his photography on their website called Aston Art, a client site offering Tim's car photography of Aston Martin as artwork because their own customers had felt so inspired by it in their sales and marketing material. The pictures can be purchased as canvas art or poster prints.
"Car, and indeed any professional vehicle photography can be quite difficult, for me it's all about shooting the image to fit the client, that maybe a shot that is powerful and aggressive or indeed one that gives an air of grace and beauty about the car, truck, or any vehicle type. In some ways I view each car as a person that has a personality, and the starting point is to understand what the design and overall purpose of the car is trying to put across, the job in hand then is too work out how best to get this message across. Aston Martin is a very good example of this, the modern Vanquish and DB9 are very sculptured and aggressive in their look compared to say the earlier DB5 and 6 therefore the shoot takes on a whole different feeling and the stage for this type of work maybe very different to that used on a more graceful classic style of car." Tim Wallace.
We have a wide collection of Tim's automotive art work at Fotoviva, together with a few more car photographers and as with all our pictures they are available as boxed canvas art, mounted on acrylic or as fine-art prints.
